Default Toadlet Substrate and care? (Bufo Japonicus)

Hey guys, I recently acquired a japanese mountain toad. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Too small for dubia nymphs.
I'm going to pick up some fruit flies tomorrow for it but I have a few questions.

I have it currently on eco earth. Is this ok or will it cause problems with feeding?

I plan on offering it food every day, is this recommended? How often should I dust its food?

I haven't cared for a small phib like this in a few years so I am a bit rusty. The last one I had was a gray tree frog froglet.
    Advice is much appreciated!

Personally I never had a problem using eco earth in over 10 years with all types of herps. As far as feeding, IMO the high lite of a toad's life is eating.lol so feeding them everyday is definitely recommended. Dusting for me has always been a bit of a mystery on how much, I usually dust (repcal D3/herptitvite) everyday, usually skipping a day every week. If you're concerned about your toad eating substrate you could always feed him in a sub free feeding enclosure.

    Thanks
I decided to keep him on the eco earth and feed him in a bowl. Since my first post he has literally tripled in size.

Kudos. Btw, do you feed him 'til he's no longer interested or does he seem like a bottomless pit at every feeding?

Thanks! I used to feed him as much as he would eat in 10 minutes because he was a bottomless pit. He's slowed down a bit now though, and won't eat if I watch him for some reason. I give him a bunch in a bowl and he eats until he's full.

There's a paper on the web regarding a study on adult American toads and how much they can eat, I believe it was 10,000 insects within a 3 month period. If that's correct; that's 100+ insects every day. There's a pet store near me that's charging $1 for 10 crickets, that would come to $930 to feed one toad for 3 months or $3720 annually if he ate like that for the entire year.

Wow, that's insane. I totally believe it! If I didn't breed my own food I'd be broke by now :P
