Hi,
I just got a new Pac Man Frog and he has eaten 6 crickets dusted with Multi-Vitamin Powder. He is about 6 months old. He lives in a 10-gallon tank with some moss, a half log hide, a water dish, and a Pothos Plant. His substrate is 2 inches of eco-earth. Any recommendations?
Ben
Hey
Remember you need to use calcium with d3 as well as multi vitamin powder. You using anything for heating?
Hi Jason,
I do use Calcium with D3 and Multi-Vitamin Powder. I have a Zoo Med UTH on the side of my tank for heat.
Thanks,
Ben
Hi Ben
Watch out with the heat mat on the side (unless you're room temp is quite warm) as the frogs barely go above the substrate during the day, so won't really utilize a heat mat this way. Without the correct temperatures vitamins can't be processed correctly and MBD can still happen, this has been a problem for me before. Now I use mine on the bottom covering a third of the floor but it's connected to a thermostat so the bottom glass never gets hot enough to burn the frog. Alternatively, you can leave the mat on the wall for night time heating (the frog will be above substrate then) and use a 40W incandescent heat lamp during the day, this works well.
Yes they'll work but I would go for heat mat and heat bulb combination unless you have an albino, as you want to give normal frogs some light ideally and when using a ceramic it won't leave much space for another fixture because you might need to cover some of the screen with foil due to the drying effects of that heat source
I would get rid of the moss. It can cause problems if he eats it. Better safe than sorry
Depends on what moss it is... Sphagnum is okay but green moss is bad. If you tong feed food when using moss it isn't really a problem.
