Looking at getting my first frogs. Probably horned/pacman frogs.

Hello, welcome to the forum. Pacman frogs are great and easy to care for after you get everything stable husbandry wise. But if you want a frog you can watch and actually see these guys might not be for you. They spend the daylight hours hidden under the ground and come out at night to eat. As a baby they will chase food but once they get bigger they are more of a sit and wait predator, you need to bring the food to them. I don't know much about tree frogs because im a horned frog type of guy but some of them can be very active and more bold if you want something like that. Again I think a lot of the tree frogs are nocturnal but they actually move around the enclosure instead of sitting in one spot when they wake up. And frogs are no touch pets but some of the tree frogs like whites will tolerate it every once and while were as a pacman doesn't really like it at all, and he has teeth so if he chooses to bite you for bugging him you are going to feel it. Were as the tree frogs will just gum your finger to death. Again I love my horned frogs but they aren't for everyone, but if you don't mind a frog that you wont see a lot and wont do much these may be the guys for you. My biggest piece advice I could give is what ever way you choose to go you should try to have the enclosure up and running with everything in spec heat and humidity wise for a couple days so your not tinkering with things while hes in there. The first few days of relocateing to a new home can be very stressfull itself for a frog and when someone is around the tank a lot those first few days it really adds to the stress and makes the settleing in a lot longer.

Thanks for the heads up.
I keep/kept and bred plenty of reptiles and invertebrates over the years and thought I'd get some frogs to try and breed at some point in the future. I know they aren't "hands on" and not that active. Been doing lots of reading up and research on them. I never jump straight in and you can never have enough info. Pacmans seem to be one of the easier species to start off with husbandry wise.

Hi Jason, my name is also Jason Horned frogs are a great choice, there so easy to care for and fat. However, the information on the care varies from each pet store to website, do your self a favour and buy the book AVS Chacoan Horned Frogs, this is written by one of the first breeders of this species and is totally accurate with the care

likewise. If I keep something then my goal is to breed it. If you can successfully breed something then conditions are right and your keeping them correctly

True, that's why I don't fully trust pet stores or people online as most have not kept the animals long term or bred the species, obviously I'm on this list but can offer advice but for now it may not be 100% and it's always better following advice from breeder, that's why that book I recommended is best. What animals have you bred before?

Veiled chameleons,crested geckos, beardies, lots of different phasmids and mantids, katydids beetles and fish. If I keep it I breed it Hence I kept the missus. Haha

Nice! Frogs will be something a bit different and exciting. Hahaha
