My room has been staying about 80 with the space heater I have. You are right though, it is probably best to just move him to a 10 gallon. That way I can get his freaking out over with, lol! I had a question about his water dish too. I use a small plastic container that is about three quarters filled with rocks. When he sits in it, the water comes up to his nostrils. So I am guessing the depth is good. How wide should it be though? From the sounds of all the splashing last night he was having a ball in it. This morning it looked like there was she'd skin in the water too. And are feeder fish good food items as a treat?

Ideal heat source and yes definitely, unless you have a female that's all you'll really need for the rest of its life aswell. Watch with the water bowl, make sure it's easy accessible, horned frogs are not that great swimmers so no more than half the height of the frog is enough and it just needs to be large enough for the frog to move around a little or sit in comfortably but it does not need a large water section

As for feeder fish it's a hard one as horned frogs need a varied diet and a lot of calcium so whole prey which bones is great but fish have been known to carry diseases, so if using fish I would not use gold fish for this reason and inspect the conditions of which they are housed. I feed my frog crickets, super worms, night crawlers, pink mice, locust, wax worms, mealworms and I'm considering fish myself to further vary the diet. Every insect I feed is supplemented because horned frogs are not really came about to eat insects, they eat frogs, fish, small mammals, reptiles and insects.

If your worried when you transfer him from the 2.5 into a 10 that it may freak him out abit you can always put a divider in the middle then its split into to 5gallons. There is a lot of people that do it this way instead of going out and having to buy 2 or 3 different sized tanks.

I went today and got the 10 gallon and a heat lamp :-) tomorrow I will get a better thermometer and hydrometer and some plants for the new tank :-) I feel a bit better about things now. Thanks for reassuring me everyone!

Let us know how things go and watch the the heat lamp as your temps are already really good, don't want things too hot now, 84 max. You shouldn't need any plants, just a piece of cork bark would be ideal or a plant pot. Good luck!

I got a cage type fixture for the heat lamp, so it will be off the tank by about 10 inches and it is on a dimmer. Hopefully that keeps things nice and warm but not TOO warm.

Just an update:
I moved Ganesh to the ten gallon tank that has a hide, fake plants, and a very large, shallow water dish. He burrowed right away and seemed happy. Then, because in the past he had eaten crickets, I got some large crickets and put them in. He scarfed them down. He seems to be happy. I have a heat lamp on him that is very gentle and keeps the tank about 80 degrees, and he is being misted about three times a day (I live in Colorado, keeping humidity requires misting very often). All in all, he seems happy and is eating Thanks everyone for the tips and suggestions!
