hey people long time no post as iv had no problems but all of a sudden the past few days my pacman seem to just wanna jump at the glass of the exo-terra 12"x12"x12", all temps and humidity are correct also was eating well and pooing as it did yesterday, also has background around the glass and artificial plants in there, i dont know what it could be? p.s. iv had my ornate for nearly 2 years it was a CB13 5cm when i got it so looking nearly 3years old
Hey, how big is he? if everything seems to be ok with heat and stuff maybe this is a sign he needs more room. My bigger one did this once she outgrew the 10 gallon she was in, once I changed her over to 20 gallon tall she just stopped and went back to her normal self.
I'd provide more space that space is only suitable for it juveniles depending on sex I'd supple either a foot print of 18 x 18 to 24 x 18
looking 6-7cm now maybe, its a male if so i do have a bigger tank which is a 18"x18"x18"x would that be to be also have 3 sides background and got more plants used for my scorpions but then the scorpions would be perfect in that smaller tank as ther also petholes
A male could do well in that but preferably I'd go larger, I have a 18 x 18 and I'm considering larger. Once you put a large water dish and that in and some lights you want to provide a good thermal gradient as well as a gradient of light so larger is always best. Although horned frogs are inactive during the day they will utilise space during the night but this is from my experience and opinion but it's well known that you should provide atleast 10 gallon and I'd at lease use a 18 x 18
well i will change them around tomorrow, guess he will have to do one more night , he does settle down by the next day till night and also last week he was on heat with his mating calls
That's fine man. I have a male too never heard him call though, definitely a funny noise as I've heard on YouTube! Also remember heat mat on side (make sure there's no background infront or behind it) rather than underneath
I noticed you're in the U.K. So if you have any problems or that I'm well obsessed with the care of horned frogs as I plan to breed them so just leave you're number and I can phone you answering most questions you may have
IF hes calling and this just started around the same time that might be what it is, hes looking for a lady friend. Being how old and big he is I would still recommend giving him some more room but from after reading the calling part in your post I bet you that's what it is. He wants some love.
In order to call he may have been exposed to incorrect conditions but when corrected have stimulate him to be rather horny!
Lol no pun intended
haha thanks people will do what i said tomorrow also i dont have a UTH but if i did it would of been on the side, i use a infrared 50w bulb on a dimmer switch
Fair enough I find they work although people say that basking lamps should never be used with amphibians (shut up and sit down) but make sure humidity is correct. Sphagnum moss is a life saver but watch for impaction! Also provide a photoperiod being light and dark, full spectrum for 10-12 hours will accomplish this and help with feeding
see i heard sphagnum moss shouldnt be used or UV why we use multi vit and calcium D3 also light form the window will do due to these animals being on the forest floor
Rubbis in my opinion, put patches and monitor feeding or feed by tongs which is ideal anyway and uv can benefit all animals providing the right supervision is provided but full spectrum isn't UVB but uva which may help the animal physiologically. The UVB requirement of horned frogs are well Unknown but they may indeed be exposed to UVB in a short time frame but d3 supplements can work as they have a varied diet in the wild. Just be careful not to over do it
well i use a schedule for the supplements and i done a F**** it lol decided to swap houses for the frog and scorps he seems to of sunk his feet him where i placed him in so guessing good sign added more plants and rocks ect lots to explore lol scorps wont be assed they just accept lol
Lol. Depending on what scorpions you have that might be suitable, wouldn't house an emperor in that space tho but man a 18 x 18 should be fine for your frog since it's a male but I'd deffo put a flourescent compact over even if a lot of people don't it does stimulate the natural environment as even a rainforest receives a lot of light even if filtered but if you have any problems am always here dude
i do have a canopy with a ES energy saver in for day light and i have two emps mate both female and there juvys (got milky coloured telson) well when time comes il probs have a bigger tank by then as il have something in that tank there in now once i have my eye on something that will suit that size and also done my research
Sounds good!
