Poultry litter is high in nitrogen that can burn plants and even cause nitrate uptake problems in animals if the potting soil contains to much and it is not composted first- if you want a quality soil, find someone that raises rabbits and get some rabbit manure, it only has a moderate amount of nitrogen but as far a nutrients are concerned it is well balanced ( and worms love the stuff ).
