Figured I'd post here to see if anyone else has this issue. I also keep ball pythons, ratsnakes, bearded dragons, various geckos and pixie frogs. Ive gone through several pacs with the same outcome. They eat well for a few weeks/months then stop eating get lethargic and die. I have no idea why. I keep them on coco fiber in 6qt tubs, around room temp (72-75f) Change their bedding about every 2 weeks. They eat and deficate fine and I soak them periodically. I feel like I'm doing things right but they keep dying. I only have two left now. Can anyone help?
What are you feeding them, and do you dust them with suppliments and calcium?
Dubia superworms mealworms and occasional small pinky mouse. Usually Dubia. Yes I dust with calcium w/ d3
How often did you feed pinkie mice and super-worms, and how big were the frogs?

On the pinky mice, once or twice a month maybe? I breed Dubia so thats usually what I use, but I have mealies and supers occasionally for my bearded dragons so I gave them those sometimes for variety. They were decent sized, about 2-2.5 inches
I had the exact same problems. First I got a baby, but she ended up dying in the exact way you described. So I got an adult male instead, but same thing. I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I just stopped keeping pacman frogs.
No frogs currently!
Yeah I don't believe its an impaction issue. Like I said they all would deficate fine and I soaked them. Always treated their water with water conditioner. I really don't want to lose my last two.![]()
You're not keeping them warm enough, could lead to digestive problems and disease. Day time temps should be 78-82f with a drop at night by several degrees, no lower than 70f. I really don't know you're keeping them at room temperature, I've read loads of care articles and books and they never recommend temperatures drop that low during the day
Really? I've read and been told that a high room temp is fine. It never drops below around 70, normally closer to 75. Does 78 make that much of a difference? Is a small uth or low wattage heat lamp preferable?
Yeah, they're cold blooded so are a pain. If your temps are at 75F you shouldn't need much of a heat boost, if you put a heat pad/mat covering half the wall on a thermostat that will actually give a good thermal gradient
Jasonm96 is right on point about the temps and that could seriously be part of the problem. I have had petstores tell me they can be kept at room temp or low 70's and that is completely false once you seek advice from experienced pac owners. When they put in low temps for along time there organs will start to slowly shutdown, and when the kidneys shutdown they can get stuff like edema( retaining water) and this not fixable. And as stated above this is a big part of digestion, to cold and digestion really slows down. Also if you are keeping them in tubs do you use any kind of light to give them daylight. They should have a 12 hour day and night cycle. And sorry to hear about the loss of others and hopefully with some advice from others on the forum we can help save the other 2.
Thank you so much for the advice. I keep them in my living room which has a big arched window (they're on the opposite side of the room from the window). They get a natural day/night cycle that way. I will get a uth to bump temps!
