So the 2 sites say 2 different things. Again I have my tanks like this for I don't know how long and I can guarantee you the air is heated not just the furnishings, actually if you touch the plants they actually feel cooler then touch then the actual air so I don't what to say. Again the op is going to choose what ever works best for him and what works for his frog.

So I guess the manufacturer of the product is wrong and doesn't know how their product works because a site on the internet says otherwise?

So I just got off the phone with with zoo med and I was talking to a girl a named Jennifer, I called because you almost had me second guessing myself but I feel better now. So her exact words were yes that the purpose of their UTH's is to raise the ambient air temps in your tank, not just the furnishings. She explained to me that for the cage furnishings to warm up that the air has to warm up to warm the plants and furnishings. She then said the surface temp against the glass where the matt is going to be warmer then the air so to put your thermometer away from the glass not exactly right against it or you will get a false reading but I already knew that part and I know you knew that also, that's just common sense. She then said when you open your tank do you feel the heat comeing out and I said yes of course and she said well if it wasn't raising the ambient air temp you would be getting blasted by the heat when you open your tank.

Of course the heat mat will heat the air if its used on the bottom because its heating the substrate so the het will come off that but the mat itself does not heat the air and when used on the wall it isn't heating the substrate and the air so no, you're still not right really. Instead of phoning up people to try and convince yourself that your rigt why not just leave it? Seriously.
