    Hi everyone

My name is Dave and I just signed up for this site.. I am so happy to finally be on a frog forum. I am 27 years old and I live in north east Ohio. I have been obsessed with frogs since I can remember. I have 3 bullfrogs, 1 white lipped tree frog, and a really really really small frog that I have not found the breed yet. I will be posting pictures of my babies and discuss froggy type things. So I just wanted to say hello and I cant wait to see some of your pics.

Welcome aboard, but I must warn you, I hate when people refer to species a breed. Its like nails on a chalkboard to me. The only time the word breed should be used when talking about frogs is when it is used as a verb, as in I intend to breed tomato frogs. Breed, the noun refers to domesticate animals, which frogs aren't. Sorry, but it drives me nuts.

Any way welclome aboard. I am looking forward to seeing your mystery frog.

Thanks. Its just one of those things that drive me nuts, especially when so-called professionals and the media use the term incorrectly. Not to long aga I remember reading about a new breed of dinosaur on AOL and I saw a show on Animal Planet do the same thing. I also saw a friend do it in a demo, I didn't say anything to her until after the show. She didn't even realized she has used the term.

Well, I just looked at you mystery frog and I beleive it to be a Lithobates clamitans, a very common species, I have one singing in my pool even as I write this (just hope the bullfrogs out there don't eat him). Depending on subspecies, its either a bronze frog, L. c. clamitans or a green frog, L. c. melanota.

I need to find another one so it can have some company. I found it at the pet store for 89 cents, so it was a keeper.

I saw a whole pond full of them last week. There is a photo in one of my albums taken at that pond. They were litteraly everywhere, almost stepped on a few.

    Love your Litoria infrafrenata!
I miss mine. I had two over the years. The first one I had a long time ago, he was a large male that would sing the moment the lights went out. He was the biggest treefrog I have ever had, till the day I forgot to check up on him and later found to my horror that his water had all evaporated. I am still angry at myself for that.
The second one, was an attempt to relive those beautiful days I had with the first. Sadly, the second one had an infection that I could not cure and died in 2007. There is a pic of that one in one of my albums.
Recently the local shop got a bunch of nice ones in, but unfortunately I don't have the room for one.

I love this frog.. it is such a pleasure to own. I haven't got any noise out of this one, so I'm thinking its a female... Is there a conclusive way to sex these frogs? I am relatively new to the tree frogs, and I would so love to breed these. So sorry about yours = (

Thanks, there is no way that I know of to positively sex Litoria infrafrenata, other than the standard - males sing and females are larger. Males will have nuptial pads but only at breeding time.

I think your little clamitans is just that, too little to sex at this point. Females grow larger, while males sing and are known to have yellow throats.
