Hi, My frog is reaching the 1 year mark and i thought it would be appropriate to feed him his first pinkie (ever). He hasn't been eating his butter worms or crickets like he used to but seems to love horn worms. I don't feed him horn worms that much for the obvious reasons but i think he just wants larger sized meals. So do you think its time for a pinkie? The only ones i can get my hands on would be dead so I'm not sure if he'd eat it. Do you guys have any suggestions or expierience on feeding dead pinkies to pacmans that would be very useful? Thanks![]()
Personally I very rarely give any of mine rodents, they usually get what the snakes don't want but the snakes are pretty good at eating lol They've never had an issue with taking dead defrosted rodents though, never had to give them a live one. They seem to prefer earthworms and roaches (not sure they're available in Canada?) to rodents or bits of chick but that could just be because that's usually what they're offered
He could be slowing down with feeding due to the time of year or temperature/ air pressure changes? That can make them want to hibernate/estivate which will affect their appetite.
As mentioned above Nightcrawlers would be excellent for a staple and being in Canada you shouldn't have a problem finding them. The roaches unfortunately ya we cant get here. Sometimes when they get bigger they also wont waste the time on small prey, this is just natural predator instinct. And if he isnt getting full enough off the crickets he more then likely wants a bigger meal as you said. My first pacman that passed awhile back and my 9 month old female is the same way, she wont eat them. If I put a nice long fat and juicy Nightcrawler in front of her its gone in like a second. I cant say much for pinkies because like Drayvan I don't give them to my frogs, and if you do end up giving him one remember it will take abit longer to digest so you shouldn't have to feed him again for a few days or so.
