looking for a good frog for a beginner

If you only have a 20 gallon tank...larger frogs are out. Depending whether it's a 20g long or 20g high also limits what frogs you can have. Most frogs do not tolerate much handling or traveling. Even my most laid back frog would probably get stressed out by travel. When you do handle, it's best to wear powderless gloves that are dampened with dechlorinated water.

I have a 20 gallon long , and when i mean handling is most likely once a week for cleaning. I have been doing my reading and while i know dumpys maybe out until i can buy a tall tank, i was looking at a tomato frog. I saw them and heard that they like to dig and with my being such a night owl i thought that if i bought them small and saved for a bigger tank as they grew we would be fine. still any advice you can give me would be more than helpful.

Even though they don't thrive for me, I reccomend the Fire-bellied toad, a good beginner speciss, great colors, and very hardy with feeders

Ah c'mon, whats wrong with Pacman frogs? I love my chunkers, wouldn't trade them for anything. L.O.L And some of the colours and patterns are just gorgeous. But ya out of all seriousness if you want a planted viv your right this isn't the frog/toad for you. They will just steamroll plants or dig them by burrowing under them or sometimes they will get leaves from plants in there mouth trying catch food. And I was just jokeing with you at the start.

so many options and I saw how big pacs can get and while i am fine with a frog who can fit my hand one that could possibly eat my hand is not my cup of tea.

A tomato frog would actually do excellent in a 20 gallon long. If you're interested in them, I'd do some more research and go with that. I do not know much about them, so I am not much help there, sorry
