i'm sure they have a cold limit, much as everything does, but i have no idea what it would be. a guess though, would be mid 60's since their natural habitat is fed by cold, mountainous streams. not that the water they live in is cold, but i think you get what i mean.
No heater being used in the water and If I recall the last time i checked it was in the low 70's. Now I haven't been around to check the fluctuation which is what worries me. I don't think it would be getting higher than 75-78 but I will know more when I am home tomorrow and can monitor for a couple days.

I know they are more tolerant on the cooler side so your suggestion to focus on water temp makes sense. I might just hook up a small fan to a timer and have it blow across the top with the lid open to try and pull some of the hot air out for a couple hours at a time and see what that does this weekend.
