 Sick Red Eyed Tree frog
 Sick Red Eyed Tree frog
Hey guys, I was at my friends house the other day and he showed me his red eyed tree frog, im no expert but it doesnt look healthy to me. I snapped a picture while he was in the other room and I was hoping you guys would be able to tell whats wrong. Besides being (what I think) abnormally skinny, why does he have that discoloration? I told him he may want to take him to the vet but I doubt he will. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kelly
(sorry its blurry, it was my phone camera)

If he doesn't take it to the vet it will likely die, from the looks of it it will probably die anyway. I am not going to diagnose it although I have a good idea what it is. It should have been taken to the vet a long time ago. This is really sad and a perfect example of why hobbyists get a bad reputation. We have a responsibility to give our captives the very best care possible, even if it costs us a few dollars.

Just for my personal knowledge, what is your guess as to what it is? I know you dont want to diagnose it online, but I guess just for future reference and to learn more, I would like to know what you think. I like researching and learning new things so in the future when i see similar situations (which hopefully I wont) I can try to help and give owners solid evidence of why and how the animal got that way.

It looks like frogs I have seen with the onset of BD (chytrid) here is a frog with chytrid, the color and texture are very similar. It could be bacterial as well and only a vet can tell for sure. Plead with your friend to get this animal seen, it surely isn't enjoying it's situation!

Poor little guy. It is very nice of you, though, to try to do something for him!!!
Do you think you can convince your friend to let you take him to the vet if he's unwilling?
