Help for identification

Hi,

I just got two pyxies, sold as "Pyxicephalus adspersus" (giant).

I looked at some threads on this forum (and plenty of others), and I found out that the "giants" I bought are mostly "dwarfs".

It looks like it takes a Jedi eye to do identification between p.adspersus and p.edulis.

This is why I would appreciate help to identified these frogs.

(7 pic attached. Let me know if the pictures are not clear enough or if a taxonomy detail needs to be more visible, etc.)

I am not an expert at this by any means, but I have to say, the pics look nothing like my African Giants (my avatar is of my largest male, Gherkin). I would have to say with 99% certainty that you have P. edulis. On a more positive note, they look healthy and alert.

I'm agree, they don't look like your pyxie/avatar at all. But maybe because they are young, the color difference would be normal as they will get dark green when they get older... I hope so.

I'm curious to see the conclusion once I'll get a verdict.

I thought "dwarf" was rarely offer in pet store, and it would be easy to get a p.adspersus... maybe I was wrong about that last point.

And yes, they are healty, eating well, etc.

As much as I don't want further competition against my picture of Yoki, I agree with Paul-you should definitely enter that pic in the August photo of the month. If I saw that one in the pet store, I would buy it on the spot!! I am rather surprised, too, at the amount of P. edulis people are being sold. I am trying to find a "dwarf" variety and have stumbled on two (already sold) Giants instead. I can't find a dwarf anywhere.
