    Default pacman frog lighting

hi all, so i've got a spare exo terra top canopy with 2 13w natural light compact lamps and was thinking of using it on my horned frog enclosure to make viewing him better but not sure if this would be too bright for him and cause problems. he's in an exo terra small low terrarium. i've attached a picture of the top canopy on it. thanks

i've also got a 13w 5.0 repti glo uvb spare to if that could be used to help with calcium absorption instead of having to use calcium that contains d3

Read this, that's interesting (If it is true from a scientific point of view of course...) :

    http://www.exo-terra.com/en/explore/...ing_system.php

UVB rating for pacman frogs is with "no star" according to their measurement system : Look there :

    http://www.exo-terra.com/en/explore/uv_rating_index.php

That means, the UVB100 lamp 13W (Formerly Repti Glo 5.0) must be at least at 50cm height for a pacman frog, or, you can use a "Natural daylight" 13W (Formerly Repti Glo 2.0).

But, I am sure it is not useless to give some UVB's to help in D3 synthesis.

So, a UVB100 (5.0) 13W (Not more) at 40cm height for me is ok. This was confirmed to me by an herpetologist in France also.

Only 1 lamp of 13W is sufficient. 26W is too much and useless and more money spent for you....

thank you for your reply, grabibus. yeah, i've used that rating index system before and it's helpful but i never seen that arcticle before so thanks for sharing . was just considering the uvb in cause i had one spare. i don't mind the money but if you think it is too bright for my frog then i'll just put one bulb in the canopy

Depends on the disctance between lamp and frog, power of the lamp and lamp type.
For a UVB100 26W (Formerly UVB 5.0 Repti Glo), UVB rating is "2 stars" if the lamp is above the animal at 40cm :

    http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/reptile_uvb100.php.

As for pacman frog, UVB rating is "No star", and if your lamps (2x13W=26W) are at 40cm above the frog, this si maybe too much UVB's (And sure, too much visible light for a pet living below the canopy in South America...)

I should not exceed "one star" for pacman frogs, it means 1 lamp 13W UVB100 (5.0) at 40cm minimum from the frog.
