    Smile Night Crawlers

In the section on "Pacman Frog" people say that night crawlers are great food for Horned Frogs. That's great but no one mention anything on how to keep and raise night crawler here!

Nightcrawlers (Lumbricus Terrestris) are difficult to culture and In my opinion not worth the effort. I used to buy my nightcrawlers from the Walmart fishing section in the little refrigerators. I don't really like Walmart, it's just the only place near me that had them.

I am not sure anybody really likes going to Walmart. Kind of the McDonalds of the grocery stores, if you know what I mean

I get mine from petsmart or the local bait shop down the street. If the bait shop is out that's when I venture over to petsmart and to be honest I had a problem with petsmart once and that was that. Now when I buy from there they will open the container for me and ask if im happy with the product. Breeding them myself don't have clue, cant help you out there. And I only have 2 frogs that eat nightcrawlers so going out to buy a couple dozen worms is a lot easier, if I can afford to buy smokes everyday for $8 to $9 dollars a pack I figure spending $8 to $10 bucks on nightcrawlers a month shouldn't be a big deal. Not saying the money is the issue for you, just if you only have couple frogs that will eat them its probably easier to just to buy them.

Well now you do. When I was younger my brother and I had a nightcrawler business. A little before dusk we would water the lawns really well and give it a couple hours to soak up the moisture. Once it was dark, we went looking for crawlers. With each of us using a headlamp and a bucket, we'd probably pull 50-100 every couple nights.

We stored them in a galvanized tub that was filled with garden soil and a couple layers of damp cardboard was used for a top. The tub was kept in the shade and that was about it.

I'm sure if had a fairly large tub full of organic soil, and maybe some sort of top you could probably make your own little colony. I'm not sure how to breed them. I would assume just pour some water into the tub and walk away. They'll make their way to the surface, and do what they do to make little crawlers.

May be as easy as setting up a tub, and buying a couple dozen crawlers to seed it with. Just keep it moist and dark. I'm sure nature will do the rest.
