Hi everyone,a
I am trying to decide whether to get 2 amazon milk frogs or 2 poison dart frogs (Panamanian Blue and Black and Dendrobates azureus). I have not had either, but current have many other amphibians. With the poison dart frogs, is it true that they loose their poison in captivity? Also, I was thinking of making a nice vivarium with running water and everything. I have a nice tank for it already. Is it very expensive to put together and how is it cleaned? Thanks for your input
You shouldn't mix dart frogs like that - keep like with like only. Dart frogs are not poisonous in captivity. Regarding expense, if it's your first time and you want to do it right, you may end up spending several hundred dollars. You should do a lot of reading and research before you go ahead and get dart frogs.

If the tank well ventilated? Because you will need good ventilation you go after Amazon milks. Not to mention plenty of places to climb.
With darts the water cannot be too deep, as they are not skilled swimmers. They do well in a tank with high humidty and their need for ventilation is not as great as that of treefrogs.
Milks can eat crickets and other similarly sized feeder insects. Darts eat smaller insects like friut flies which you will have to culture yourself.
Darts can be territorial, treefrogs rarely are.
That being said, I love them all.
