They will definitely try. Probably most frogs, too. Anti-pet groups like the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) will do everything they can do ban herps as pets in general. The snake community has been dealing with this type of legislation for years and USARK has been with us every step of the way, fighting for our rights in court (and proving mostly successful).
Unfortunately, where science could be used as a counter measure against the anti-snake legislation, the case for spread of disease that our opposition is using is probably much stronger. All amphibian keepers need to be ready for action when necessary. Every animal they add to the Lacey Act or ban from importation/interstate trade adds momentum to add more.
