    Default Springtails

    Good morning everyone

I just introduced a culture of springtails into my terrarium. I understand that you do not have to feed the springtails at all because they eat the waist and mold from the frogs and buy products of the terrarium is this correct. They will be a food source for the frogs and keep the terrarium cleaner is this correct.

Thank you very much for your information

    Roger

In a terrarium you do not have to feed the spring tails. In cultures I usually feed them live yeast.

Some springtails culture faster outside the tank then you seed them every so often others do just fine adding them at once. As the food for springtails waxes and wanes so will springtail numbers.

I am culturing some springtails in charcoal. I am feeding them Brewers yeast and uncooked rice granules.

How long does it take for them to start reproducing. I put some in a container with charcoal and a quarter of an inch of water about two weeks ago and still have not seen any reproducing. How long should it take to start.

You should see them increase in a week or two. I prefer using moist cocofiber to charcoal.

It depends what kind of Springtails Culture they are. Tropical Springtails fare better on a substrate that is soil based mixed media. Temperate Springtails do ok on charcoal.
