The 12x12x18 is technically big enough for one, but it doesn't give a whole lot of height and space for movement. I had my boys in a 20g high (when I had only 2) and they were much more relaxed after moving them to an 18x18x24. Once they moved they were more active and had a better appetite. So that is what I would recommend. They are easier to plant then also!
