Unknown tree frog

Hello,

this (tree)frog has been found in a garden in Burgenland, eastern part of Austria. The only native treefrog there is Hyla arborea.
Does anybody of you have an idea, what it might be?

Got me perplexed. I have never seen a frog like this. I found a picture that makes me think that it may be Hyla arborea. I am only going on the yellow mark below the eye. http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/im...0000+0506+0837

It is beautiful. It would be a popular frog in batraculture if it ever becaome commercially available.

Any possibility that little fellow has been exposed to some chemicals? I've heard of people trying to bleach out tadpoles in swimming pols ending up with albino frogs. The near perfect circular bits make me wonder if he's be hit with some kind of pesticide or fertilizer granule, perhaps while hibernating?

Quite perplexing. I cannot find any photos of Hyla aborea that even comes close. At first glance, I thought it was a reed frog, but wait, they're not native to Austria!

Obviously a color morph, genetically altered or something.

To me it is Hyla arborea. What's throwing you all is the colouration/pattern. This is likely some genetic quirk that prevented the green developing well. Very interesting specimen.

I believe he can't - they are protected.

If it is Hyla arborea and they are protected, is there not a clause that says you can keep mutants. In Massachusetts black rat snakes are protected, but you can keep them if they are some mutated form like an albino or white-sided.

Albinos are not created by chlorinating a pool, they are a genetic mutation.
