Handling

Do you ever handle your frogs? I don't handle any of mine, except Betty. She is always trying to get out of the cage, so I take her out and she peacefully sits on my shoulder. She usually lasts about half an hour before getting squirmy and jumpy. Sally on the other hand, will have nothing to do with my hands grabbing her. She typically will try to eat me or get away. Oliver is still getting treated, so I haven't gotten to know him yet. What about yours?

I don't handle Bonk because he's shy, but when Julep starts wanting to get out sometimes I let him. Then of course I have to pick him up if he looks like he's going to get too far away. I hope that doesn't make him hate and fear being held. I try to do it gently, by nudging his legs until he walks forwards onto my hand.

On average I don't handle mine, but I think it's important to desensitize them to it so you can handle them for medicating, moving, examining and treating injuries/wounds, etc. Some will take to it just fine, others never will. Jelly Bean and Shirley don't mind it much; Honey-Lime, no way! I haven't tried much to desensitize Lucy and Martha, so they aren't fans of the occasional handle when I do have to move them. I wear gloves 95% of the time, but the times I don't have gloves my hands have been washed and totally rinsed with dechlorinated water.
