Default Questions about plants for darts.

I apologize if this is the wrong sub forum for this. My questions are more about the plants used in the vivarium building process, rather than plant ID, care etc.

I'm almost 100% done with my dart tank with just a few finishing touches left to do. One of those is finishing up with the planting of the tank.

    Here we go.....

    1) are there any "must haves" or "essential" plants that need to be in a dart frog tank?

This is where I'm at as of today.

    2) I'ts a 10 gallon vertical tank for thumbnails. What are some smaller bromeliads and tillidansia that I can add to make the frogs more comfortable, use and for breeding? Specific names would be GREATLY appreciated.

    3) after looking at the picture, are there any suggestions on what to do differently?

    Thanks
    -AV

I don't know if tillandsias would do well in a dart tank? As far as bromeliads go I think the Neoregelias would be good: 'Fireball', 'Little Jewel', 'Mo Peppa Please', 'Ariel', 'Angel Face' etc. There are tons! I love this tank and I can't wait to see it finished!

    Hi AbranV,

Sherry is right. I'd nix the tillandsias idea. She has given you 2 good brom ideas .
    It looks very nice!
The 2 pothos plants will need ongoing trimming, otherwise they will get too big.

The only species that "REALLY need" broms are egg obligate feeders ....ie Oophaga pumilio.
The others will do perfectly fine with film canisters .
Having said that, most of the smaller species will use them.

I don't put broms in my tinc tanks.

Come to think of it... I don't have broms in my R imitator "Varadero" enclosure either.
Without broms they are transporting tads to the canisters - only. They are happy and breeding.

Sherry and Lynn, thanks for the help! That's exactly what I was looking for.

Since broms aren't a necessity, that will make life much easier. Any suggestions on other plants that

Oops sent that before I was done.

Anyways, other than swapping out the pothos, are there any other suggestions along the lines off adding or subtracting plants? Anything I could do to add some color? A "Persian shield" plant has me intrigued, but I really know nothing about it.

Other than making up my mind in a species of frog, planting has been the second toughest part of the build.

    Thanks again

What kind of plants are you looking for? Climbing? Trailing? Straight terrestrial? Ferns? Aroids? I may have some plants I can spare. [emoji6]

Honestly, I really don't know. I'm more fishing for information than anything else. I'd be fine if I had to leave it "as is", but want to make sure it will work for the frogs.

In the beginning, this tank was supposed to practice my skills for a 29 gallon vert. These are all plants that I had laying around and I threw in there to get an idea how it would look. I didn't expect it to turn out as good.

I'm kind of in an unexpected spot, I never really had a plan so to speak. It just kind of happened. That's why I get to harass all of you, and see if it needs any thing else, or anything less.
