Hi guys. I have a question:
Do any of you know, if there's someone smart out there, that's found a "feeder bowl" method for serving live nightcrawlers?
I'm in the situation that my two Duttaphrynus melanostictus (Asian toad) have gone completely chicken on me and are taking a LONG time to get used to their new, large enclosure. I'm stoll not quite sure if they've quite figured out they have a water bowl LOL
Anyhow, I can normally feed all my other toads by hand/in my hand/place them on the floor or in a large feeder bowl with food and they'll eat straight away and otherwise be comfortable being handled.
One of my large Duttas has always been sort of a scaredy cat, but since they've been in their new enclosure, now they both are. I'm also normally able to lure them out of their caves and guide them to their feeder bowls with a lazer pen, but even this they are now VERY hesistant about.
From... *seigh* experience, I know it's a fine balance between ALOT of patience and repetition, slowly, gradually and they will again get used to being hand fed. But these two guys are taking a LONG time. So in the mean time, I leave some mealworms out for them in their bowl at night (they are most active at evening and night/early morning) and they've already got that (Mumi now often sits in the bowl in the morning, giving me a certain look if it's empty).
And although I gut feed the mealworms with veggies and oatmeal and dust them with multi vitamin to the best of my ability, I don't wan't that to be their staple food. I breed earthworms myself and it's a great, nutritionous food.
- So - does anyone have any great ideas?
*Much appreciated.
