I'm doing a PowerPoint presentation on Frogs this Wednesday. I'm behind on it and looking for interesting, unusual or little known facts on frogs, including funny.
Also if anyone wants to donate some pictures of colorful frogs (they'll be used only for the class presentation, during my 20 minute slide show) and hopefully enlighten a few people on why we're all in the hobby.

In 2011 a research team led by professor Chris Shaw At the School of Pharmacy identified 2 proteins or Peptides, Which can be used in a controlled and targeted way to regulate angiogenesis-the process by which blood vessels grow in the body. This discovery holds the potential to develop new treatments for more then 70 major diseases and conditions that effect more than a billion people world wide. The proteins are found in the secretions of the Waxy monkey frog and the giant firebelly toad. Professor Shaw says " The proteins that we have discovered have the ability to either stimulate or inhibit the growth of blood vessels. By switching off angiogenesis the inhibiting blood vessel growth, a protein from the waxy monkey frog has the potential to kill cancer tumours." " On the other hand, a protein from the Giant fire belly toad has been found to switch on angiogenesis. and stimulate blood vessels growth. This has the potential to treat an array of diseases and conditions that require blood vessel repair quickly, such as a wound healing, organ transplants, diabetic ulcers, and damage caused by strokes and heart conditions." I discovered this awhile back while trying answer one of my questions about frogs and found it so interesting, and still myself try to find as much possible about this discovery. Hopes this help out abit, and Professor Shaw and his colleagues Professor Brian walker and Dr. Tianbao Chen were awarded the Commendation in the Cardiovascular Innovation Award at the medical Futures Innovations Awards in London for this research.![]()

Thank you guys for posting!I'll definitely use these pics and information. I want to add the desert rain frog cause its so cute and unusual. Are they ambush/borrower frogs?
Fun fact: frogs shed and eat their skin.
Why I am in the hobby: frogs are hilarious to watch at night, feeding is so rewarding, and they are honestly the cutest things ever.

Yes the dessert rain frog is a burrower, they will bury as deep as 7 inches to find moisture in the dry dessert sand. Also this frog has no tadpole stage and has a spherical body which is a clever adaption to help it retain water for longer.
Ya they are pretty adorable little frogs, my oldest daughter seen a youtube video of one squeaking like there was no more tomorrow and she instantly fell in love. The next words out of her mouth were " oh my god, can we get one dad." L.O.L
For a cool fact there are some species of frogs that lay their eggs on leaves overhanging water, and if they sense a predator or something else that can hinder their survival, they can hatch early, Red-eyed tree frogs included
Oh and that wasn't supposed to say desert sand, it was only supposed to say sand. Sorry about that.
When a frog swallows its prey and blinks, it is pushing its eyeballs down on top of the mouth to help push the prey item down the hatch. Here is another cool one, the female Surinam toad lays up to 100 eggs. These eggs are distributed over her back, her skin then swells around the eggs until they become embedded in a honeycomb like structure. After 12 to 20 weeks fully formed toads emerge by pushing out through the membrane covering the female toads back.
I want to thank everyone for their contributions. I got 100% on my presentation :-) They loved it. I used the pictures and facts and even a picture of a purple/grey black forest rain frog that scared everyoneIt was fun. They wanted me to keep going!
100%, that's awesome man congrats on the mark. And glad we were able to help you out.![]()
