I have three Amazon Milk frogs and the one that I've always been sure was female (gave that one the only gender specific name) has started calling! This frog is much bigger than the other two and seems to have small ears and I can't really see a difference in thumb size. I know normally only males call but can't convince myself that (s)he's male.
I don't believe they do. They may make a sound if alarmed. Before they are mature enough to call, the biggest difference is size. Males don't typically get any bigger than about 2 1/2" and a female may be almost twice his size; bigger and fatter. You might consider yourself lucky ? They deposit 100s of eggs.

Did you get them from me?
The males have expanding vocal sacks at the sides of the mouth, when they are calling you will see them. The females definitely do not have them. I don't find that body size is as obvious an indicator, my breeding group has similar sized adults of both sexes.
Jason.
I got them from a family run pet shop. Think the guy ordered them from Monkfield? I guess Maya is a male and needs a name change lol. I spotted the vocal sacks yesterday. I haven't heard the other two call yet but maybe they aren't mature enough. I don't know how old they are, I've had them since November and they were really tiny then.
Out of of interest what substrate do you use for yours Jason?
If they came from Monkfield last year then they were bred by me, yes They would have been 4-6 weeks old when you got them.
I use bioactive substrate with mine, hyroballs for bottom layer, mesh, eco-earth/topsoil mix then orchid bark on top.
Great to hear they're doing well! Here they are when they were little
And REALLY little (the day after they hatched)
And this is their dad
Nice looking frog! I don't know specifically about milk frogs but I know female white's sort of call. More like a chirp or two, but not a lot in a row. And of course females don't have throat pouches.
Wow its a small world! First time having milk frogs and I love them, so glad I chose them. He's beautiful, how old is he?
This is them yesterday.
Well there aren't many breeders in the UK, there was me and one other last year to my knowledge so chances were good!
My adults are between 2 and 3 years old, but Milk Frogs grow fast so yours will be like that by the end of the year!
Just saw your photo pop up as I posted, they look great!
