Default Mushrooms growing in Red Eyed Tree Frog's terrarium??

they were growing out of coconut fiber! right next to an aglaonema and right above the heating pad. Has this ever happened to anyone before? The mushrooms were really small, like they just started growing. I removed them from the terrarium. I know it must be suitable conditions for a mushroom but how the heck did the spores get there in the first place?? are mushrooms toxic to RETFs?

    Hi Alex,

    Highly unlikely they are toxic.
I can't be 100 % sure of that if the frog were to accidentally ingest it, however.

If you want to kill the spores, you could bake the coco fiber ~~ that would probably work.

I gets LOTS of shrooms , regularly. I leave them.
Mine are in dart frog enclosures and appear 'on' many different spots, several different mushroom species.

I do not have any in the tree frog enclosures as I do not use substrate in those 2 enclosures.

I just put up some photos ( facebook) of a beautiful shroom that was growing in the R sirensis enclosure.

I believe there is probably some species of mushroom in each of my enclosures ~~ right now.

photo upload is disabled - here- at the moment.
    And, I don't use photobucket.

Mushrooms will come and go as conditions permit. Removing the actual mushroom doesn't do much as this is just the 'flower' of the fungus. The fungus from which the mushroom is growing from is below the substrate. The fungus works like an invisible cleaning crew, breaking down organic matter. It's helpful. If the mushrooms were toxic, it would only be so to a frog if they were to ingest it, but since frogs aren't vegetarians, you should have no problems. the flowers normally only last a couple days. And then they are gone.

Like Lynn, I get mushrooms in all of my dart tanks. They tend to like the humidity. I have seen them pop up in tree frog tanks, when I kept tree frogs and never had any issues due to them.

If they come again, I would take some pictures, if you hobby around photography at all. Sometimes they come and go in the same day. And if you want it to grow big fast, put a clear glass over it to enclose it. They are make the terrarium look nice I think.

I've gotten very cool looking mushrooms in my African Fat Tail gecko enclosures which are a lot less humid than frog enclosures. They show up for a period of time and then fade away.

I get mushrooms all the time, they disappear as fast as they come usually. Nothing to really worry about. I enjoy seeing them pop up.

Oh okay thanks guys!! i did remove them but i thought theyd prolly come back too, since i didnt remove the substrate from which they were protruding from. No doubt theres left over bits in there thatll start flowering. I like them too! i love watching things grow. I thought itd make a nice addition. But was worried of any complications they might cause. But considering they dont seem to be threatening, ill leave the new batch thatll undoubtedly pop up. I do love taking photos, ill do so next time.
