    Default Help please :)

http://Well got the vivarium set up some now. I need help. I have no imagination rotfl. I know what I want but for some reason when I see it in my head it isn't showing up in my tank
    Please help me out here
    What am I doing wrong?

I don't know how to place my plants at all. I've tried putting them in different places and so far this is it. Sad and now you see why I need input lolol. This is for green tree frogs. I know they need plants to crawl on and I do have some pathos planted but they need to grow in. Will my frogs be ok until then?

Oh so many questions. I've done tons of aquariums, planted and reefs both. But I just can not wrap my mind around this vivarium.

Mmm was going to post a pic but says this site says it isn't a valid photo. Do I have to make an album here to post one?

I know I still need leaf litter and I also need moss and maybe some tiny ferns. To make it look homey
but something isn't right about how it looks and I have no idea what is missing. I just know something is.

Hardscape. It needs hardscape. Some wood or branches for plants to grow on to and for the froggies to climb on.

Hardscape! That's it lol. Thank you oh so much.
But I have no branches to put in it. I do have a question however about using wood in it. I am in the process of tearing down a planted tank. I have a rather large piece of wood in it. I have had this wood for years, it just goes from tank to tank to just sitting around. Is that usable in a vivarium? I don't know if I would use it because it is pretty big, but that would be nice to know so if I decide to make another I can use it

Yes it can. I use wood from my planted tanks often. In fact, I have one piece that has been used in at least 10 planted tanks and 3 or 4 vivs.

I'm going to take a guess and say I have to dry it out first, correct?

Yes, to properly sterelize, dry it, 10:1 bleach soak it, dry it, finally bake it at 200 for 20-30 minutes.

Plant it with a larger pothos and some fake flexible vine. Wrap the pothos around the vine. You can attach the vine with 3m stick on hooks. Be warned: the hook glue doesnt like water, place the hooks high, they wont be effected by spraying. You can bend the vine to meet your needs.

    Hide?
I can do the larger plant and the vine, in fact I never thought of doing that, thanks
But i'm confused about the hide? I don't have a hide in there. Unless your seeing something that you may think is one or I am using one and not knowing it lol.
I do know what the hides are, my siblings have spiders, lizards and snakes and they do have them.
It could be my lovely way I have the set up that is confusing rotfl!

And thanks for the info on the driftwood

Drying the wood and baking it would be a good thing I try to avoid bleaching wood if I can. Even if using a good dechlorinator, bleach will leave salt residue behind, which will permeate the wood.

I"m not sure if it's been asked yet either, but what kind of substrate are you using?

Actually the substrate is just eco earth and some peat. My mission for this weekend it to get the stuff to make the substrate some one gave me a link to earlier on here
I think she said ABG mix. I have it saved on my pc.

Oh and about the wood, just another question, imagine that?
Baking the wood would just be to make sure it's dried out correct? I know it's safe or all my fish would be dead
Only reason i'm asking so much about this particular wood is because I have a 56 gal column tank and I'm pretty sure i'm going to be converting it over. Only if my current one turns out passable lol.

It aids in killing bugs, their eggs, bacteria, mold, all kinds of not so delightful things...

The substrate would be ABG. I left a comment on that thread about it.

You should bake the wood to sterilize it before using it in a Viv. 250* for about an hour. Just because the fish are ok, does not mean there aren't pathogens that could cause frogs to get sick. Just like humans, some fish are carriers of disease, even if they do not show signs of any illnesses. And fish carry some really nasty illnesses.
