    Default RETF call

I think I hear one of my first RETF calling. Does it sound kind of like chickens clucking, or fingernails scratching on vinyl records? Does it mean the male is mature or can juveniles call too?

    Yes and yes
It means you have a male.

A female can 'make a noise' if startled; but it's a different sound.

Thanks. I hope they're not all 3 males because the fingernail scratching is going to get pretty intense.
Oh, another question: do males call only in the presence of females, or regardless?

I started off with only 2 males. They called all the time. The clicking, the squawking, the quiet trill. You do get used to it though. My RETF tank is in my bedroom and I never wake to their shenanigans anymore.

Regardless lmao. Our babies started as what we thought 1 of each. The one we thought was a girl started with a single chirp and a shake, now Herman and Granpa Munster are both quite vocal, and fat...

They geek out if its going to rain and bark in their sleep, the "rrrrrrrrr tik tik tik" more often if hungry, a single pop if irritated, a few pops when lady hunting, their noises can really reflect how they are feeling.

90% of our many animals reside in my bedroom as well, i like all the nature sounds it puts me to sleep. But i am a mountain goat....

LOL Krispy... my first two red eyes are named Tarrazu and Fortuna...Fortuna is a male but waited until about 2.25 inches to start calling! Tarrazu started calling at only 1.75 inches, so I was sure Fortuna must have been female. Late bloomer
