Hello everyone, this morning when spot cleaning I noticed some peculiar looking poop. At least I think its peculiar. Not sure exactly who it belongs to. Both of my white's are eating well and active at night and there has been some croaking, actually a lot of croaking. So any thoughts on it?

That's nasty lookin... Does it have a really bad odor? Can you take it out with a paper towel and get a better pic? Weird color. What's your substrate like and what have you been feeding? have your frogs ever been fecal tested or medicated?

Have to wait to get home. The substrate is coco fibre and the food is dusted crickets. Never been fecal tested or medicated

I would definitely get a fecal test as soon as possible. That doesn't look good. My first guess would be some kind of parasite, hence the fecal test to either confirm or rule it out.

Can you give a little more background on your frogs? Were they captive bred or wild caught? Where did you buy them and how long ago? Is there anything in their tank that they could have accidentally ingested (gravel, moss, wood chips, etc)?

It doesnt have a really bad odor, barely any odor at all.

Hmm... I don't know for sure. Definitely highly recommend getting a fecal test run, but you're going to have to wait for a fresher sample now. Needs to be found before it's dried up and bagged and refrigerated asap before a vet can see it; sooner is always better fro accurate tests. Strange how the poo is the color of bird droppings... I hope someone else can chime in too, I've seen my share of weird frog poop, but nothing like this

Agree with Lisa, get fecal done asap. It looks like out of control protozoa, fecal needed to confirm. Meanwhile - qt set up, papertowels, you know the drill

I'm almost sure who the poop belongs to, but if Agnes, the one in QT now, if her next poop looks normal, should I put Angus in QT immediatley or should I wait for at least another poop?

Oh and one more thing, can anyone recommend a good place to send in for a fecal exam or should I go to the vet (they have never been and there is one close by who is apparently really really good)?

Update: (sorry, heh) Agnes pooped after about three hours in QT, the poop looks completely normal. Its in a bag in the fridge. What should I do??

If you have a local vet that will test it I'd recommend bringing it there, as the longer the sample sits the less reliable the test is. Shipping times can therefore result in false negatives. If you don't have any local options then I know a lot of folks here recommend Dr Frye for mail in fecal tests. If you search the forum for his name you should find contact info, or I believe it's posted in a stickied thread in the tree frog subforum.

You know if you haven't done fecal for them get it done anyway.

with protozoa and with any other parasites poop can be different, one day runny and weird looking, the other it might look ok.

Right thanks, still wondering whether I should take it to the vet (and if I should bring the frogs with me to the vet) or send it out to get tested.
and also should I take Agnes out of QT and replace her in the QT tank with Angus to get a sample? (Only one QT tank available, working on getting another, sorry I ask wayyy too many questions when I get worried).

The vet might just test the stool for you to start with.

no need to stress out the frog and most vets would charge you for appointment if you bring in a frog, if you only bring fecal that won't happen
