Best Frog for Beginners

Hello, I have been looking at frogs as they seem like a good pet. I have narrowed my options down to three. The Pacman Frog, White's Tree Frog, or the Oriental Fire Bellied Toad. Please respond and let me know if you have had any experience with any of these frogs, and if you could recommend it.

Well, these are all very different frogs that you have listed. What are you most interested in? Do you want something simple that stays small and doesn't need much room, or are you looking for something bigger? Something you can handle? Tell us what you are looking for these are all great options, but like I said above very very different. Pacmans get pretty big, and I think fairly low maintenance though I don't own any so I can't be sure. Whites are a blast, I've got a few myself. They need a fair bit of room and maintenance though. But very rewarding! Fire bellies i don't know much about, but I think they are somewhat easy to care for and awfully cute

I have three white tree frogs and agree with frogger00 they are tons of fun, have amazing personality but require a lot of tank space and def. some maintenance. For instance they are tree frogs and need lots of climbing space, a tall tank and you may house more than one together. The more you have in a tank the more tank you need. I have one in quarantine in a ten gal and two adults in a 18x18x24 exoterra. ( I plan on upgrading as soon as i can afford to and I'm also waiting on my frog who is being treated for parasites. ) I also think it's very important you do your homework on what the type of frog you choose, requires for housing, proper care, ect. Whites can live up to twenty years which I didn't know when I first bought my frogs. I am in it for the long haul. Also be prepared for vet bills as juvenile whites often come wild caught if bought from a chain store like petco. The juveniles are also at higher risk for impaction. I'm currently treating misty because she came from petco Ill, and she has been in quarantine since jan. it took multiple stool samples and a visit to the vet to determine what her illness was. There are many ways to set up our tank aswell so you will need to look into that as well. You can do a natural planted or fake. People at the pet store tend not to know what there talking about. That's why frog forum is the best! I have a fake set up with plastic plants and repti carpet which requires lots of maintenance and constant cleaning. I clean the tanks at least once a week and take everything out and rinse well and sanitize from time to time. There is much more to learn and take into consideration so again when you pick a species look into every aspect. And remember frogs absorb everything through there skin so keep that in mind when handling and putting anything in the tank.

The best frog for beginners is the one you really, really want and can provide the proper temperature and environment for.
Also their active times may be important. Firebellies are daytime creatures and most tree frogs are night owls. For White's you may need a taller (therefore more expensive tank) like Snappi said.

THIS, is the best advice I have seen yet for this type of thread! Elly hit the nail on the head. Pick a species that you know you can care for properly, that is the most important thing. Also consider maintenance. Fire belly toads are semi aquatic, which means a large water dish or water feature, which ups the maintenance duties. Figure out how much work and time you want to put into their habitat and go from there.

Thanks do you know a reliable place online to get whites. I don't think I'll go with petco or petsmart after reading this thread and hearing other things.

Any frogs can come with vet bills and health issues just a heads up but there is def less risk getting them from a reputable breeder. I personally don't know of one.
