I've had Taylor for almost a year, her "Frog Day" is May 17th. She's been really shy about eating though. I've always heard Bullfrogs to be aggressive eaters, but she almost ignores the bugs I put in with her. Most of the crickets drown. She does eat though, but I'm not confident she is eating enough. She's 3 1/2 inches long now, and I just finished upgrading her 40 gallon tank in a 75 gallon tank.
Does it look like I'm doing anything wrong that would cause her to not want to eat?
Any ideas on a better pump that will run silent in shallow water and suck more of the crud off the bottom of the tank?
She could have no place to hide and is becoming stressed out, so I would buy her a 150 gallon tank ( American bullfrogs are very large frogs and are powerful jumpers, and will leap and jump around until she get's nose rub, where she rubs her snout against the glass until her nose is raw, and that will eventually lead to infections and diseases), and give her two hiding options so she can hide out
A hide or maybe plants to give her some camouflage and a sense of safety, like cliygh said, they get very big. Possibly invest into a bigger tank that is wide (these guys chunk out like pixies and pacs), as for feeding possible a separate container, and do a little research and look into what all they eat as they get bigger. Most froggies are insectivores, but some are carnivorous on occasion, like they'll eat fish or pinks/small rats.
I'm just getting into aquatic setups so I'm for sure no specialist in what brands are quiet and efficient or any of that.Sorry I can't help on that front.

I built her a bit of a castle for now. She seems to like hiding in it, and hanging out on top of it. She hasn't eaten since I set it up though.
I'm considering this Ovation 1000 Submersible Power Jet Filter. I'd just like something that can run relatively quiet in shallow water, and keep up with the mess she makes. I know dirty water is the main cause of frogs getting sick, so I want the tank looking clear and clean.

Thanks everyone.![]()
the frog has nowhere to hide. the cave is a start but it would be way better if you got some floating aquatic plants and tons of pothos creeping around. and in a tank atleast 2x that.
Think of making it look more natural. Think about if your house was just bricks and bare walls. Add some natural wood hides and plants!

Be careful with the bricks. Test the water pH to be sure it's around 7.0 (neutral).
Yep, bullfrogs needs super clean water with a good filter and they are happiest hiding among water plants. Can add a few large rocks for perching on in the water.
Water lilies, lotus, water lettuce. It's hard to mimic their natural environment bc great water plants like duckweed will clog most filters.
They tend to live amongst the plants on the edges of ponds.

You could try feeding him some wiggly night crawler pieces and freshly molted Dubia roaches. Occasional hornworm snacks are okay too.
