I want to fully sanitize all my plastic plants bowls and decor in a 5 gal bucket. I'm unsure of how much bleach I should add and how long I should let them soak for? I've read lots of threads and there's a lot of different ratios and timing specifications out there. Any one have any suggestions?

I'm sure you are looking for something like a 10:1 ratio, soak for x amount of minutes, ect., but the truth is, you are soaking plastic. You can use bleach full strength, provided you rinse and dechlorinate afterwards. The reason we dilute the bleach for live plants is because full strength bleach would outright kill them. You on the other hand don't have that to worry about

Yep, Bill's right there. Just remember that bleach is thick slick stuff and hard to rinse off, so the higher the concentration the longer you will be rinsing, even with dechlorinator-- in fact some dechlorinators are the same if you use too much. Found that out with API, slicker than owl snot!

So if u fill a five gal bucket with water and add say two cups bleach would that be enough to kill bacteria and mold ect?

What should I get as a dechlorinater?

That should do the trick. Dechlorinators: everyone has their "favs". I have used seachem's prime for as along as I can remember in aquariums and vivs, and it never let me down. There is no shortage of dechlorinators on the market just choose one and stick with it![]()
