so when i look at my frog today, i noticed that his right lower jaw, is opening a little.
i thought it was MBD.. (Pic coming later if needed)
I got 2 Pacman. but only this one guy got his jaw opened.
I gave them both calcium dusted crickets.. (once or twice every week)
I used to gave them calcium for every single feeding.. but later realized that when i gave them calcium
they tend to eat less.. (2-3 crickets when with calcium, 4-6 when without calcium)
Bought the calcium in a place nearby, its not exoterra.. its just a regular calcium tablet that human sometimes used.
Obviously I grinded the calcium..
So my question is..
1. If this is MBD, Is it curable? Can his jaw return back to normal?
2. I've seen that exoterra got calcium + D3.. would like to know what is the purpose of D3.. and why that exoterra calcium is better than a regular calcium.. ?
3. If this regular calcium alone is enough.. How long will it take for this to take effect.. (jaw returning to normal)
4. Why does my pacman always eat less when i gave them the calcium..?
That is all, Thankyou everyone.
Best Regards,
Sorry but exoterra's calcium and other stuff is pure SHi*t, except hides and dishes. I mean even exoterra's lamps are completely useles. Sorry brah but i would use some other's brand supplements like zoomed, reptical, zilla or anything else, but not exoterra. Trust me it's bad...![]()
Its not like i want to use them..
Its just i lived in indonesia and its very hard to find for other brands.. i couldnt even find a nightcrawler here.. thank you tho.. will try to ask ppl here about those brands..
Pics would definitely help. There is a problem on the forum so you either have to upload pics from a mobile device or via photobucket.
You should be dusting with calcium every other feeding and multivitamins once a week.
Vitamin d3 is just as important for bone health as calcium. Without vitamin d3 your frog won't do very well.
I'm not sure if it is curable. I had a frog that died from MBD about three years ago. But even if it isnt curable, it will not continue to progress if you begin providing proper supplementation.
As for why they eat less, i have no clue. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in

Is it possible that the poor little guy smashed into the side of the tank?

It is.. since this guy is very active unlike the other one.. he couldnt sit still.. always running around.. especially after i clean or do anything to his tank..
He sometimes hit his mouth against the tank.. but not so hard.. do you think this is something because of that??
It's difficult to tell for certain but it seems like a likely cause

Is there anyway to fix this? Or will it heal on its own? Or is this some kind of permanent damage?
Hi and welcome to the forum.
it does look like MBD, the only way to confirm it is to do xrays and see the density of the bones. Based or your history the MBD is more then likely the case.
It can be reversed to the extend, but deformity of the bones it's not possible to fix. It's albino, so no UVB can be used.
How big is a frog, how old?
you need to follow supplementation schedule exactly, get a proper supplements too.
- reptile and amphibian multivitamins ( use them once a week)
- ca with vit d3 - use it 2 times a week.
get any brand, exoterra are good too, when dusting food, make sure you shake off all excess dust, frogs don't like when the food has dust all over. Personally I like repashy the most, it is a very fine dust and covers food very nicely.
at this point I suggest you get resque Ca I believe by exo terra and reptiaid (reptiboost) by Fluckers, use both according to the instructions on a bottles. Make sure you are gut loading your crickets too. You can use reptiaid for dusting crikets for the nearest month instead of multivitamins. ResqueCa instead if ca/vitd3.
NEVER use human supplements!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Will do, thank you lija
Lija.. how long do you think it takes for it to have any effect on the frog??
And will it's lower jaw returned to normal? Or is it permanent
Its very sad to see its jaw like that at the moment..
I Am getting calc + d3 and the multivitamin..
Is there anything else that i am missing??
You should start with looking for reptiaid( reptiboost) by fluckers and resqueCa by I think exo terra.
i doubt the jaw will return to normal, he'll be probably always a special pac. The goal right now Is not to let MBD progress further.

Never heard of those 2.. is there any alternative if those two arent possible here in indonesia??
No idea, sorry, but you can use just regular multivitamins and ca/vitd3, it's better then nothing![]()

Thank you..
Last question.. is there anyway to indicate that a frog got MBD before its deforming the bone??
Dropped jaw like that usually is an early indication

I found the multivitamins and cal d3...
However.. it is stated here that the cal d3 is only for reptile..
While the multivitamins is for reptile and amphibians..
Is it safe to use the cal d3 for pacman? Or should i just use the calcium without d3 for reptile and amphibians??
If it does not specifically state that it is only for reptiles or that it is not to be used for amphibians then it should be good.
