hey guys, this is my first post/build. I'm looking for some help with what silicone is safe to use? I have seen a few posts saying GE silicone wasn't safe because of the mold blocker it has in it and then have seen other posts saying its no problem and is still safe to use. I looked at some actual aquarium sealant and it was $12 for 3 Oz. the GE II silicone is $6 for 9 Oz. any help is much appreciated thanks

I order mine on amazon - http://www.amazon.com/All-Glass-Aqua...arium+silicone
I bought the GE once but was too nervous to actually use it.

Ge silicone is fine. You just do not want to use the kitchen and bath version. That has toxic mold inhibitors in it. The windows and doors version is the one you want.

Nope. That one will do just fine. It's the same kind I have used for years.

So some of the GE II has a toxic mold inhibitor, and some has a non-toxic inhibitor? They both contain the same chemical for mold prevention according to the MSDS, which is nearly identical for both silicones. They also both contain whats known as "BioSeal", a mildew inhibitor which has been getting aquarium people riled up for the past decade, but direct evidence for the negative impact of either isn't common. As you can see, Bill seems to have been using it just fine for years and I would go so far as to say neither type would be harmful to a vivarium set up. GE Silicone I has no mold inhibitors in it at all, but it does have the BioSeal additive included...
