    Default Thermometers, thermometers, thermometers!!!http://www.frogforum.net/images/smilies/mad.png

Good evening, so I asked this question before in the enclosure part of the forum but am now running into trouble again so thought I would ask some of the pacman owners out there. So right now I have a zoo-med thermometer in my enclosure on the warm end and during the day I place an all livings things one in the enclosure beside the probe of the zoomed one and I place one of the same kind in the middle just so I can really monitor the temps because he is just a little over 3 months old. Oh and there is one of the all living things ones stuck on the wall in the cold end that stays there so I always know what the temp is on both ends all the time. I know this may seem overkill but remember 2 of them come out at night when he moves around. Now my problem is the last week or so I have been kind of stuck trying to average out what the temp is because the zoo med one is always 2 to 3 degrees different then the all living things one. And the weird thing is if I take both brands out and put them on top of my thermostat they will both match the inside temp of 73f. Neither of them are the 2-1 kinds they are just for temp, could that be the problem? Is the humidity messing them up. Now for the thing I really want to know, so I had one of those floating glass thermometers that you use for fishtanks and I just layed in there for abit to see what it would read and it was 84f in the warm end. Now the zoomed one at this time was only 81.9F and the all livings thing one read 83.8F. Which thermometer would you use? When I asked this awhile ago I was told that the glass was the most accurate and this came from 2 very respected members of this forum so im not doubting it, im just wondering what u guys think about putting something in there glass with a pacman frog. I was told I could super glue to something vertical which I was thinking the stock of a plant or something could work. Is this safe or would I be maybe takeing a big risk? I know they are little tanks when they move around so I don't know what to do. And if not could someone give me a good brand of a 2-1 that they use.

I use a zoomed temp/humidity combo in one of my tanks. I noticed it reads far more accurate if you can space the probe about an inch away from the enclosure wall. It kept just reading the glass temp and had me all messed up for a while. The people from vivarium electronics explained it to me while ordering new sensors. Man was i mad...

HI, ya I have it placed about 4 inches from the wall because I use UTH's and I have 2 of them on that end, 1 in the back and 1 on the side. And that's why I need to know what the proper temp is because he sits in between the wall and the probe, I have the probe stuck to the stem of a plastic plant so it almost is right on the substrate. And when I put the all living things one in the enclosure in the morning I place it on the substrate right beside the zoo med one. Im so confused because they both match my air temp outside the tank, darn things. I want to use the glass and glue it to the same plant but im really hesitant. And when I read my post I think I answered my own question, if the all livings thing one and the glass read almost the same inside the terrarium one of them would be more the accurate. I think L.O.L, these things drive me nutz. Would you use glass?

Cory... I'll tell you a secret lol, shhhhhh.......

i dont have thermometers in my pacs tanks, but everything is plugged in hydrotherms. I do have infrared gun, that I use for everything as a backup and control reading.
In other tanks I have glass floating ones and in others combos from walmarts/Hd\ etc. I'd be scared to put glass one in any of my fatties tanks lol

Hello, ya I don't think im putting that glass one in. I thought about it all night and have tried to convince myself it would be ok but he is already 2 inches and hes a very angry little one, so im afraid he will eventually break it. I was trying to get his water bowl out the other night and he tried to bite me I don't how many times, then after putting the bowl back in the little bugger splashed all the water out almost. I don't know how he did it but the bowl was almost empty in the morning and the substrate around the bowl was pretty damp. And I know he wasn't retaining it because he looked normal before he went and buried for the day, He doesn't like me fiddling in his home at all.
But back to the thermometer im going out to buy one of the hydrotherms because im done trying to guess which one is right, I don't know why I haven't went and bought one of these already to be honest. And thanks for the replies guys/girls. Oh actually one more thing, what is a good brand of infrared gun?

Holy, what a difference in price. Thanks for the heads up, if its that much of a difference I will definitely be purchasing it from ebay. When he got mad the other night, for the first time he did this thing where he lifted his whole body up while puffed out and started doing this rocking back and forth thing. Being as small as he is it was making me kind of nervous L.O.L. And my lord is he ever vocal when he is mad.
