Thread: Introducing A New Frog

    Default Introducing A New Frog

I got a new RETF. He had been quarantined and tested by the breeder we bought him from so we could introduce him right away.

The tank was upsized, everything was cleaned and fresh. So they both went in to a tank where no one was already boss. Gru saw the new frog....watched him from afar....looked for him for all of 2 minutes and gave up. So they have not really met.

I looked up fighting but can one frog kill the other? Will they fight for dominance? How much fighting is normal? I have been feeding two week crickets, but the breeder gave me three week. They seem to big but he is more knowledgable.

Any advice or help would be appreciated!

I don't know about red-eye behavior in particular but I don't think tree frogs often kill each other. Keep an eye out for bullying/ snatching food though. The general rule of thumb for feeders is to choose ones that are the same length as or less than the distance between the frog's eyes.

Just in case you didn't know signs of fighting for dominance, rump shaking is one. (You probably knew, but this link is just cool.)

I hadnt seen that particular photo yet haha I need to get more foilage really badly. We had lined up getting the new frog with getting a shipment of live plants. But they person delivering the plants cancelled...and the breeder didnt. So now I have a small amount of greenery in a large tank. Tomorrow I plan on buying some cheap fake plants to tide over until the live plants get here
