It may be a very poorly made unit that is designed simply for measuring how things are in your house. Your terrarium should be fairly high in humidity which could cause problems, or water from misting could have gotten into the electronics. I would recommend a hygrotherm which could control a fogger or mister and your heat source without having to worry too much, but the price is much higher.

(If you didn't get the same at walmart) Try the ZooMed's Digital Thermometer, here's a link Digital Thermometer and for the humidity, get a ZooMed brand Hydrometer! Good Luck!
