Lightning question

Hey

I know this has been a debate forever but...

I want to add proper light to my guys. I notice he because very green when hes out in the light and i know i dont have proper lighthing at the moment...

What do you use for your frogs?

Ive seen the reptisun by zoomed and reptiglo by exoterra. I know some UV rays arent good for frog eyes, vision and too much is no good for their health...

Im not looking for heat. Just healthy light. Wanted to stay at the 2.0....

Any suggestions?

I also finally just receive my male and female Gastrotheca Riobambea and planning on breeding and hear they do need the light... any suggestion for the breeding guys? Ive got everything else set up and perfect

I use Beamworks LED lights over all my tanks. You can get them at Aquatraders.com for very cheap prices. I use the 1w 3 row LED Lights.

I also use led bar lighting with: A uva 40w incandescent for heat. Uvb 13w 5.0 because they need it. Full spectrum 26w hyrdoponic grow bulb for the plants. Its as close to sun as it gets. It may be overkill lol but thats just me, and overkill is how i roll lol.

If you want to increase his color then I suggest you increase the heat. My frogs have a basking spot of 90f, and they are absolutely stunning! Of course provide them with some cooler areas, but just having a bit of extra heat really makes them pop!

LED but my guys are nocturnal so it's just for me to see them and for them to get a sense of day and night.

Wow 90??????? Seems a bit hot to me... my red eyes are content as can be at about 80-82... their glands from our research say they cannot take that for too long or it will cause health issues. No I'm not shunning anyone, were all different down to the animals preferance...

So frog folks.... Whats the input???

my Greys don't need heat. Not sure what you have but 90 sounds high to me.

Keep in mind it's only 90 at one spot. The entire cage is about 75-85. I give them the opportunity to get close to the lamp, which is their hot spot. They do use it.

Wow. Thats actually an awsome temp gradient. How often are they that close to the heat source? As a fairly new frog person its natural curiosity and behavioral study for me. Perhaps pm would be in order for this.

Thanks! They tend to go up there in the afternoon, and leave the area in the evening. I think that all reptiles and amphibians should have a good temperature gradient, as its really natural for them. What I find really cool is that they get brighter in color as they get hotter. Feel free to pm me and ask questions!

Hey guys

Thanks for the input.

My whole "test/research" has been going on for four mobths. Heat wose, Giggs has lowest point around 75 and highest at around 85 and at night lowest drops to about 68 and highest goes about 75. Got that part figured out. Hes happy! Moisture wise, same idea. Got his favorite range and keeping him up there. But thats beside the point.. lol

When i clean his cage, its ligh outside still. I put him in a cricket keeper on my counter as its decently warm there and he always happens to be in the light. Soon as the light hits him, he goes green! Thats why i think my light isnt sufficient for his needs.

Happy to hear what ive been thinking for set up and bulbs arent a bad idea.

Can you put a compact fluorescent into any regular basket hanging light? I would rather try that first beside i spend crazy amount on a couple other set ups for lighting.. As my gastrotheca Riobambea are going to get the same..?
