Default Switching to tong feeding- any tips?

Hi folks, recently I've wanted to switch to tong feeding for my toads because I've noticed my American toad sometimes gets coco fiber in her mouth and it seems to upset her a lot. I've had a few troubles though, the main being that when I dust her bugs with calcium + vitamins she has trouble grabbing on to the crickets because of the powder, and if it takes too long its almost like she gets frustrated and gives up. Is this a normal problem for frogs to have trouble grabbing powdery bugs, and how long should I expect to have to work with my frogs before they can be tong fed comfortably?

I'd love to hear from any sort of experience with this sort of thing just to gather ideas on how I can make it easier!! I also wouldn't be against putting her in a separate container to feed but I don't think she'd warm up to it, I've tried it before.

    have you tried bowl feeding?
There aren't really any tricks to tong feeding that can be shared, it just takes practice. Sometimes it takes forever for a frog to go after a bug, sometimes they miss but they don't seem to mind as long as the bug eventually gets in their mouth.

I do that sometimes, I put things that can't crawl out into a bowl for them [worms, dubias ect] but because crickets are their staple would I have to cripple them to get them to stay in the bowl?? the idea makes me real squeamish lol

Just make sure you use those tongs with rubber tips to avoid injury if your frog misses

Yes good point, the tongs I currently have on hand for my milksnake are probably sharp for a frog's mouth. Is the difficulty my toad has with grabbing dusted crickets normal, though? I've read that a vit A deficiency can cause their tongues to lose stickyness, should I be concerned?

I found a good alternate to tweezer feeding, works for me, and no worry about cutting the frogs-- bacon tongs!

Exo terra has come out with some tongs that have rubber on the ends so it doesn't hurt the animals mouth.
