    Default Two Frogs In One?

    Hello

I had a quick search around the site about this, but didn't see what I was looking for.

I'm from the North East of England, and I was walking home last night around midnight and I seen a frog in my path. I thought I'd take a picture to show my girlfriend because I'm romantic like that (I joke. it's because I always seem to see a different animal every time I go home and she loves animals).

anyways, I forget all about it until this morning when I see the frog in my phones gallery. so I go to WhatsApp her and see it has 4 eyes. I thought maybe it was a blur (even though the photo is clear). so I look at another picture I took and see the same from that angle!

is this a rare thing? I've never seen it before.

    Pic 1:

flash from my phone shows it having 4 eyes. and if you zoom into the legs, it has 2 knees.

    PIc 2:

you can see it looks like it has 2 heads from this angle and 2 back legs on one side.

I did notice the growth-like thing on the side of the frog last night, but it kept moving when I tried to look closely at it. I didn't notice the 4 eyes etc until this morning.

    thanks

okay, so I showed my girlfriend and she said it's two frogs mating. I disagreed because this "growth" I mentioned seemed to make them look merged. However, looking at their front arm, it looks like it's under the bottom frog/toad.

they just look tooo close, but now I feel I could be wrong lol

if I am, feel free to call me a fool, and I'm sorry for the frog porn.

Definitely mating. This position iss called "Amplexus" in frogs. The male grasps the female from behind like in your picture and then the female gets to do the work of carrying the male to suitable breeding site where eggs are deposited.

The position of the males hold will vary from species to species (some grasp closer to the waist for example). The location of the hook up varies as well, it may happen in a suitable pond, or sometimes a male will 'ambush' a female passing by, etc..

    well, I feel silly now.

but thank you for the response, it was interesting.

it must have just ambushed the female, I don't think there were any ponds around as it was in the middle of the street. I didn't even realise it was two frogs at the time.

    oh well, thanks again
