I'm working on my Girl Scout Gold Award Project (hence the user name), which is to improve the lives of domestic frogs. Part of what I'm doing is collecting information on undiagnosed/undiagnosable diseases from frog owners, which I'll put together into an online database. This is clearly NOT real medical research or any replacement for veterinary care, but the vets I've talked with think it might be a useful resource anyway, because the medical background on frogs is nowhere near complete.
If your frog has had any strange, unidentifiable diseases, could you please tell me what the symptoms were, what treatments you tried, and whether any of them worked? I'll sort the entries and compare similar ones (after doing a basic fact-check) to see if any trends appear in terms of which treatments worked. Again: THIS WILL NOT BE A FORMAL MEDICAL RESOURCE AND WILL NOT BE REPRESENTED AS ONE. The point of this database would be to help give vets and frog owners some idea of what direction to go in with treatment if a frog's symptoms look like those in one of the entries.
Thank you!
Thats an awesome idea.
Is this just for frogs or are you including tadpoles in this as well? Great idea by the way!
Definitely including tadpoles, and thanks! (If the tadpoles don't grow up, the frog-related part would be moot...)
Yes - to clarify, "frogs" should really be "anurans".
Do you also want to include data on other amphibians, i.e., Gymnophonia and Caudata?
Um. If you have any, I'll take it; I'm focusing more on frogs (guilty conscience), but if this turns into a salamander disease database, that wouldn't be any less useful. (They're cute too.)
So does anyone have anything? It would be wonderful if no one's frogs ever got unidentifiable illnesses, but unfortunately, that seems unlikely.
