Bullfrog With Cloudy Eye Membranes

Hello All,

Well, one of my lab frogs, a large adult male Bullfrog, has developed an issue. His nictitating membrane on his right eye has clouded over and between it and his cornea there appears to be some sort of growth or deposit. Looking at it through the dissection scope has not allowed me to identify it. The nictitating membrane on his left eye is beginning to become similarly discolored.

He was recently treated with a course of tetracycline because as happens in many lab colonies, he was exposed to red-leg but never became symptomatic.

I am thinking it may be from an abrasion to his eye, though I cannot be certain. I will try to post an image later tonight. He is otherwise active and healthy.

Is the eye bulging at all, and is the clouding sort of bluish? If so, I still don't know what it is, unfortunately, but my Cuban Tree Frog developed something that sounds similar one week before his death. (The vet gave me a medication to apply directly to his eye, though I don't remember what it was, and he died after going through the prescription.)

The eye itself is not bulging but the nictitating membrane makes it look that way. The eye underneath seems just fine save for the growth, and the discoloration is a sight bluish in tone.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend taking him to a vet. I hope he feels better.
