So. After a trip to the steel city reptile expo, hooking up with AZO Reptiles. They have nice pac mans and amazing feeders(they ship). He recommended a good treat and tong feeder. I think they are superworms? Not sure of the name at the moment but i know them as garden variety green caterpillars. The ones with blue stripes and a horn on its tookus. While we learned huey isnt afraid of tongs it wont take. Once you drop the food though.... NOOOOOM! Fast too man... talk about a speed pic. Its huey enjoying its first treat on saturday!
Heres a few after hueys growth spurt. Holy freakin shnazberries batman! The one pic shows the under of the chin very well. Were beginning to think we have a little lady!
So? Well? Hmm? Suggestion?
Well, the worms/caterpillars are hornworms. They I believe are fairly fatty, and should be used as treats and not staples. If you are looking for staples, might I recommend roaches and nightcrawlers?
I think that crickets or roaches make a good staple food for Pacman frogs. Always dust food with a calcium supplement, which does not have to include D3. Dust them immediately prior to feeding like you would sprinkle salt on fries. Mice and worms are a great treat that your Pacman frog will surely enjoy. Pretty addition to your family. Congratulations!
I usually buy about 3000 crickets at a time for the week. They are all gut loaded with flukers food, orange chunks, and calcium(yellow) water gel. I dust every other feeding, and rotate between calcium and calcium d3 every other(other) time. Its broken down into a very tight schedule. With 10 firebellies 2retf 1pacman 5green anole harem(with 2 long tail grass lizards in there too) we cruuuuuise through chirps(crickets). So dusting regiments are no new thinng to me. All of them have a uva(heat), uvb, and full spectrum hydroponics 56-67k grow lights to stimulate full sunlight. Even my ball python. Sun is so important to digestion wether its a day time sleeper or not its important in my opinion. Ive also noticed better color eating and behavior in all my animals. The worms are only a treat. So. I love all the advice. Knowing all this... is there a good schedule i should follow?
3000 crickets a week? Wow! You beat me by much lol
the schedule for babies:
-2xweek ca with d3
-1xweek multivitamins
no dusting in between.
adults/subadults - same principle but more days in between : 2 feedings with ca/d3, one feeding with multi, one feeding in between each dusting without any dust.
hornworms - big and juicy, like watermellons, because of the big water content if fed in big quantities can cause diarrhea. As well they contain thiaminase that contributes to short tongue sydrome development, but for this to happen pacs gotta eat them on a regular basis and a lot of them.
to summarize, they are great as a treat once in a while for variety and not many at a time.
He is so pretty and looks very happy!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
