How do I know if my vivarium is safe for frogs. I have had it going for about a year and a half now and the plants are well established. Is there ways to test the tank for good and bad things or if it might be harmful for frogs. I don't want to kill what I put in there. :/
Please! I put a frog in and it died![]()
Hi, so sorry about the frog
its hard to say about the tank, lots of things could go wrong. What materials were used, what is inside, what frog? How the quarantine was done?
If you post pic and describe what happened with a frog, what species, what are temps/humidity, how did you do quarantine that would be a start.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Well my tank has been going for almost 2 years now but I have been afraid to get my dart frogs and them die.. So I bought a cheap little green tree frog and it died in less then 12 hours. .
I have a water feature, a fogger and all live plants. Plant are doing well and most all of them came from josh's frogs. I do have a few other things that have started to grow however I asked about that on here awhile back ago and was suggested they were just lichens..
I will send some pics here in just a few minutes.
Also as far as the build itself I was talked through it from bill so I did all those steps right, at least I think
If the frog died in less than 12 hours, it was probably already ill
In the future, make sure you quarantine the frog before you introduce it to the main enclosure. Otherwise you potentially introduce bacteria, parasites, fungal infections, etc. Then your tank will need to be cleaned before being able to introduce a healthy frog.

sorry i missed this, i have been under the weather for a few days and haven't been following the forum a lot.
i hate to say it, but the viv most likely WAS safe, until you put an unquarantined "test" frog in there. (i won't even get into this one). but now that you have introduced a most likely parasite infected frog in there that passed, the whole tank now needs to be disinfected, as amy said.
for future reference, there is no way to know test for frog safety, but if you used non toxic items in the tank, and plants that were processed properly, there;s no reason to assume the tank wouldn't be safe.![]()

Couldn't agree with Bill and Amy more if I wanted too. Now that you introduce a frog that died in the tank so quickly your safest and best option is to break your tank down and disinfect and clean everything.
As bill said if you used all non toxic items and have ensured you can maintain the proper temps and humidity than your frogs should be ok in the tank.
