Default My grumps [feat. new Asian Common toad]

And my new arrival who currently doesn't have a name, an Asian common toad [Duttaphrynus melanostictus] who's sex i'm not yet sure of. I requested a female but the company made no promises, and they seem kinda like a 'he' to me. Could just be that they haven't fully grown yet. Until then i'm not sure what to name them.

    Hi Gut!

Congratulations on your new guy - this is an excellent species! Their "formal" name is Duttaprhynus melanostictus, I have four of these at home (have had 7 in all) and I love them!

They're a robust species, have lots of personality and are the quickest to tame and get used to your company, that I have personally experienced. However they're social toads so would be great if he/she could get another dutta friend (mine often sit/sleep together, bathe together eat together an prefer sharing a den, even though I change their enviroment around and they have multiple choices. All my toads have a buddy for companionship, whom they often interact with).

Regarding his/her sex, in this size it should be easy to find out. If the throat is a clear, beautiful orange, it'll be a male. Otherwise, go for the nuptial pads, but fullgrown males who are sexually mature, will get an orange throat.

Here's a picture of my Godjira, so you can see Godjira seems a little smaller than this guy and Godjiras buddy, who is already croaking, is just slowly getting an orange throat now.

BTW: Careful not to get too much moss and dirt in the foodbowl. Could cause impaction
