Hi there, I just noticed these weird marks on my Asian common toad which I bought from LLLreptile 3 weeks ago. I didn't notice them sooner because she doesn't like being handled, and I only took her out when I noticed she didn't seem to have eaten.
The forum won't let me upload my images for some dumb reason but here are urls to where you can see them:

She has a big scrape on her back left hand and these two weird blemishes. Does anyone have experience with this? Should I put some antibiotics on the wounds or try melafix/something similar?? Please help
Also: her tank parameters were fine. Temps were about 70, moderate humidity, and she was eating very eagerly up until a few days. I just gave her a honey soak, sterilized her tank and gave her a simple set up with a hide, water dish, her plants and plain paper towel, slightly moist, and wrapped it in newspaper so it would be dark and maybe make her feel more secure. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. I want to take her to a vet but I don't get paid until next friday and have no idea what the cost would be
Just an update. This past week I've been doing quick melafix soaks and applying triple antibiotic ointment to her boo-boos. I keep her hospital tank very clean and at a steady, reasonable temperature. By comparing pictures I estimate her elbow wound has healed a bit and her 'cysts' (don't know what else to call them) have lost some color, but I've noticed a few new, smaller ones springing up in different places. Since its been weeks since her last meal I force fed her a cricket last night and another a few minutes ago, to hopefully give her energy, as she's lost a lot of her fighting spirit.
Just wonder if anyone else has advice. Right now I have her soaking in some water just to give her fluids. But with the way things are looking, I'm starting to think this might be a futile effort, even though I really hope not.
Sad news, my fella took a turn for the worst. I already had a vet app but its looks like its gonna have to be euthanized, unless they have some sort of miracle cure. I'm very sad
I'm sorry.![]()
So the vet did end up putting her down, I'll just go through what happened. She was looking extra cruddy this morning, didn't even try to escape the critter carrier like she normally does. By the time i got her to the vet she'd developed red-leg. The vet agreed that the fact he hasn't healed at all in spite of the TAO was very abnormal, and she also pointed out something I hadn't noticed, I guess because I was too focused on the medicines and such I was using with her? But the toad smelled really, really bad. None of my other amphibians or reptiles have a distinct smell unless they've used the bathroom and it was definitely coming from her- which I don't even have to say, is a very bad sign for ANY animal. It implies there's some pretty nasty bacteria there.
So, that's that I guess. I'm very bummed it turned out this way. And as an addendum: the price of euthanasia sure is high :/
I'm sorry for your loss![]()
