Thread: Do Red Eyed Tree Frogs change sex?

Default Do Red Eyed Tree Frogs change sex?

a guy at a family pet store said red eyed tree frogs change sex if there are too many of one sex available. Like if there are three males, one will switch to female. Is that true?? im skeptical. Ive never heard about this, not where red eyes are concerned.

I have only ever heard of this in cane toads. They have both male and female reproductive
organs and can change sex if their testis or ova are damaged. Ive never heard of this in any
    other frogs though.

It sounds like he's selling more than just frogs.

If it were that simple, then nobody would bother about trying to buy or sell sexed frogs.

Yeah he was. He had a blue tongued skink in there that was sneezing and looked like he had tail rot... And it looked exhausted, kept lowering its head like it was so tired. And its hide out was puny, the skink could never have fit through that hole. And he changed his prices on feeders within two weeks, raised them by more than half. I was quite bothered by his store, i was tempted to even say something, but didnt..

And he had tarantulas but didnt offer a hide out for them at all. He was acting like a know it all but everything he said wasnt really making much sense to me. My mom wasnt aware and asked him how to sex red eyes, because shed known i had been wondering, and he said size, which is extremely obvious. He said, "take yours in and we can compare him with the others". I would never put my red eye through that, id know the difference in size just by using my memory. Duh. I later asked if he had any red eyes available and he said he wont have any in a while so that offer was pointless to make anyways.

Yeah thats what i was thinking, why would anyone be searching for the opposite sex if that were true?
