So it's been 2 weeks since I brought my froggies home.
I have kept the humidity at 80-100% and they SEEM to be eating (flies are disappearing!?) ... But I still haven't seen any of them out in the open? Is this normal?
Thanks in advance! L

Umm, what type of frogs? If darts, do you have hides and leaf litter in the vivarium for them?
Yes they are tinctorius (3 juveniles). They have loads of hiding places: 3 logs and a cave, and they also have live plants (I heard the more places you give them to hide the more you will probably see them?)
I also give them a 12hr cycle of heat/light and don't let the day temp go above 24C, and I don't let the evening temp drop too low either (below 15C) ....

All frogs differ in the time that it takes to become used to their new environment and realize that it is safe. For now they are scared to come out because the tank is unfamiliar. Its nothing to worry about. Although we do anyway because we want the best for our frogs . However, the temperature changes do seem a little extreme and the cold end of the spectrum that you describe is just too cold for them.

Thanks! Hopefully I will see them soon! All being well for many many years! Ha.
Okay I will try to keep it warmer in the evening with a heat mat attached to side of tank maybe while the lamps are off?

I wouldn't worry about it either, sounds like they have what they need and will become bolder with time. I would agree also, they can take nighttime drops but that might be heading towards too cold...
Thanks so much you guys!

Ok so bad news I lost one of my frogs this morning
The other two seem fine and are actually starting to come into the open.
I can't understand why it died - I'm obsessed with keeping conditions perfect. The only thing I noticed was that it seemed to have a swollen belly when compared with the other two...
Is it normal for young frogs not to make it? Should I call the pet store - do stores normally give replacements??
Thanks!

I'm very sorry for your loss ,
pet stores are absolutley notorious for their horrible care conditions. I have seen darts in petstores many times lacking proper care and humidity. I suspect that your frog just couldn't recover quick enough from the bad conditions. In the future, I suggest purchasing frogs from either a reputable place (like LLL reptile and Josh's Frogs) or at a reptile expo where you can meet some knowledgable people.
Just to rule out any other possible causes of death, please answer these questions as you would before the frogs passing. Thank you and good luck with your other frogs .

Thanks so much for your reply.
I'm based in the uk, I didn't actually buy them myself I inherited them just a few days after they were purchased but I've always looked after them (long story!), but the place is a very reputable reptile shop with a specialist in dart frogs.
I'll do my best to answer the Qs
1 - dendrobates tinctorius (Patricia)
2 - no photo sorry, but here is tank mate...
3 -
4 - 45x45x45 cm
6 - two other tank mates, all same species/morph. The one that died was bigger than the remaining two.
8 - typical humidity I keep between 80-100% (although it does drop to 70/60 during day whilst I'm at work)
9 - typical temp is around 21 degrees Celsius (sorry I'm English!!). During the eve it does drop to about 16, but I'm attaching a heat may to side of tank overnight now.
10 - using a 25watt candle bulb for heat and a 20watt uv bulb for light (2%uvb, 10%uva) both on an automatic 12hr cycle.
12 - only had them for 2 weeks so not cleaned as yet. I use tap water treated with Exo terra "aquatize" for hand misting etc.
14 - I didn't set up the tank myself, but looks like moss, soil and some pebbles. All live plants - one is a fern, think another is a pothos. Plenty of bark and hiding places.
17 - I've never seen the frogs eat (I've only had them two weeks and are still very shy). They are fed daily with small fruit flies dusted with calcium (repashy). Not fed them anything else as yet. Good is loose in tank but I put a small piece of banana to attract them to one area. I can't see any poop in the tank.
Not sure of frogs age but they are little. Described by shop as "ready to go". They are captive bred and have always been cared for by myself.
Frogs kept in a high traffic area. Never handled apart from taking from shop.
Thanks so much for everyone's advice! L

The only thing i can think of that may have caused the frog's death is stress. I reccomend getting a fecal exam done on the remaining frogs. And remember to raise the nighttime temps a little. The frog you posted DOES look healthy too.
