    For the substrate, you want it just damp enough that it can clump. A good gauge to use is by getting some drenching wet, then wring it out by hand as hard as you can, kind of like you would if you were making a really hard snowball. The resulting substrate in your hand is just about perfect. You can then make all the substrate using that method, or just add water and mix until you reach that feel.

    the wetter the substrate the better when they are little! your soil is way to dry. they love it moist! (:
